Personnel Certification

The SPF (Spray Polyurethane Foam) Installer is a third party certification administered by BPQI (Building Professionals Quality Institute) to satisfy the regulatory requirements in the SPF industry. The certification also provides assurance to stakeholders in the construction industry that installers are properly trained, knowledgeable and skilled to complete their work. The certification is in the process of being accredited for conformance to International Standard ISO/IEC 17024 – Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification of Persons.

The process to obtain certification status involves successfully passing both a written and practical evaluation, both of which have a 75% minimum grade requirement. Certified Installers will receive a photo identification card to confirm their certification status. Certification cards are valid for one year and maintenance of this certification involves annual renewal. Re-certification is required at 5 year intervals.

To become certified with the BPQI as an SPF Applicator the following is required:

  1. Complete F-090-004 rev 5 SPF Certified Installer Application Form
  2. Submit payment for the one-time Registration fee
  3. Submit payment for the online MD SPF Installer Examination
  4. Submit payment for the practical evaluation
  5. Successfully pass the MD SPF Installer Examination
  6. Successfully pass the practical evaluation
  7. Submit a digital color photo of yourself for your Certification ID card
